Job Description

Job Title: Accountant (1 position)
Location: Dodoma
Full-Time.
Reporting: HOD Finance and Administration

Duties and Responsibilities of An Accountant
1. Ensure all transactions are accurately done, recorded, and properly filed (manually/
computerized) competencies daily.
2. Posting accounting transactions on a daily basis using QB Accounting Package.
3. Perform the month-end activities as per the agreed organizational timelines (Transaction
entries, Journal entries, reconciliation etc…) and maintain all balance sheet and Profit and
Loss (P&L) schedules as required on a monthly basis
4. Preparation of the Year-end Financial Statements and provision of supporting schedules to
Internal and External auditors
5. Work closely with the Head of Finance and Administration to ensure annual budgets and
re-forecast align with program activities by carrying out financial analysis, preparing
monthly accounts and expenditure reports.
6. Carrying out monthly bank reconciliation of the various TMA Bank
7. Maintaining and reconciling debtors and creditors sub-ledgers in accordance with the TMA
Accounting policies and procedures Manual
8. Processing Salary remittances and other payments in a timely and accurate manner.
9. On a weekly Basis send a reminder note to staff with long outstanding balances on Travel
advances and Imprest to ensure TMA Accounting policies and Procedure Manual are
adhered
10. Filing of statutory returns and ensuring they are paid on time (NSSF, Pension, NSSF,
PAYE, WHT, WCF, SDL etc.)
11. Prepare and submit monthly financial statements.

12. Implementation of sound financial management, accounting, and investment strategies,
policies, procedures, and systems that ensure effective control and accountability of the
TMA resources.
13. Management of the general and subsidiary ledgers in accordance with internationally
accepted accounting and financial reporting standards and preparation of final accounts
for external audit.
14. Preparations and Processing of staff payroll accurately and timely.
15. Prepare accurate work papers, schedules, and reconciliations for audit purposes.
16. Prepare and analyze the Monthly budget vs actual report and provide explanations on
variances.
17. carries out the procedures outlined in the internal audit plan.
18. Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
19. Reconciling general and sub-ledger accounts and double checking all reimbursements
request against receipts received and issuing receipts for fund received.
20. Respond to enquiries from the Head of Finance and Administration on financial results,
and special reporting requests
21. Maintenance of up-to-date Fixed Asset Register.
22. Follow up and implement auditor’s recommendations (Internal & External)
23. . Perform any other duties assigned by your supervisor.

Qualifications and Skills of An Accountant
1. At least a Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance and any other equivalent field from a reputable
institution.
2. CPA candidates will have an added advantage
3. At least three years experience working as an Accountant.
4. Knowledge and Experience in donor-funded projects.
5. Hands-on experience with QuickBooks accounting software.
6. Ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision and maximum effectiveness.
7. Ability to meet deadlines
