Geita Gold Mining Ltd (GGML) is Tanzania’s leading gold producer, operating a single major gold mine in the Geita Region. Position

Technician 1, Database

Objective of the Role

The Technician 1, Database will provide first-line technical and geological data management support.

The role is responsible for ensuring accurate capture, validation, maintenance, and reporting of exploration and mineral resource data in compliance with AngloGold Ashanti standards and Mineral Resource estimation requirements.

The position also supports data integrity, security, and auditability to enable reliable resource estimation and informed decision-making.

Role Accountabilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Maintain a safe working environment and ensure SOX-aligned data authorization and locking controls.
  • Validate and review geological data from Exploration, Grade Control, and Geotechnical teams.
  • Reject invalid datasets and coordinate corrections with relevant teams.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly database audits.
  • Produce reports on database discrepancies and corrective actions.
  • Verify and reconcile assay submissions.
  • Import verified assay results according to approved protocols.
  • Maintain reconciliation logs and QA/QC reviews.
  • Administer and maintain geological database systems, including Fusion, Datamine, or similar systems.
  • Support software installations, upgrades, backups, version control, and data locking.
  • Coordinate with IT teams and vendors to resolve database-related issues.
  • Provide training and technical support to end-users.
  • Maintain standard operating procedures, documentation, and database guidelines.
  • Contribute to database improvement initiatives and related projects.

Role Requirements

Education and Qualifications

Applicants should have the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE).
  • Diploma in Geology or ICT.
  • Certification in Database Management, Data Science, or Geoinformatics.

Experience

Applicants should have the following experience:

  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in geological database management or a similar role in the mining industry.
  • Proven experience using geological database software, preferably Fusion and Datamine.
  • Experience in data validation, quality control, and compliance with SOX or similar standards.
  • Experience training or coaching end-users on database systems will be an added advantage.

Knowledge and Skills

Applicants should demonstrate the following knowledge and skills:

  • Proficiency in geological database software such as Fusion, Datamine, or similar systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
  • Understanding of database management principles.
  • Knowledge of data integrity, validation, reconciliation, and assay data import protocols.
  • Troubleshooting skills and ability to perform software installations and upgrades.
  • Basic SQL or query language knowledge is preferred.
  • Good understanding of HSE standards.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to liaise with vendors when required.
  • Physical fitness suitable for a mining environment.
  • Ability to train and coach database users.
  • Proactive approach to continuous improvement.
  • Must be a Tanzanian citizen.
