Position

Supervisor – Underground Mining (Production)

Objective of the role

The Supervisor – Underground Mining (Production) will oversee shift workers and equipment usage in underground operations, ensuring safe and productive performance while maintaining workforce competence.

Role accountabilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Lead safe work practices by verifying critical controls, PPE, and Take 5 compliance.
  • Conduct inspections and toolbox meetings.
  • Manage incident reporting and investigations.
  • Deliver production according to plan by supervising:
    • Production drilling
    • Slot raises and V30 holes
    • Stope preparation
    • Charging and bogging
    • Effective use of remote boggers
  • Manage haulage and services by achieving truck cycle time targets.
  • Ensure correct loading and level call-ups.
  • Oversee scaling, services retraction, and installation of barricades and signage.
  • Maintain proper documentation and handovers by ensuring accurate PLODs and end-of-shift reports.
  • Provide clear status updates for the incoming supervisor.
  • Coordinate support functions with dispatch and lamproom for:
    • Breakdown and delay capture
    • PPE distribution and stock control
    • Timely equipment meetings
  • Uphold operational standards and environmental controls by:
    • Maintaining roadways and sumps
    • Enforcing housekeeping and waste segregation
    • Controlling dust and spills
    • Respecting flora and fauna

Role requirements

Education and qualifications

Applicants should have the following qualifications:

  • Completion of Secondary School Education.
  • A formal qualification, such as a Diploma or Certificate in Mining Engineering, will be an added advantage.
  • Physical and mental fitness for work.

Experience

Applicants should have:

  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of exposure to the underground mining industry.
  • Relevant underground mining experience.

Knowledge and skills

Applicants should possess the following knowledge and skills:

  • Manual vehicle driving skills.
  • Ability to operate underground machines, with minimum skills as a service crew operator.
  • Knowledge of explosives usage and management.
  • Understanding of work risk assessment processes.
  • Ability to read and understand work plans and mining instructions.
  • Valid Tanzania driving license.
  • Blasting license.
  • Knowledge of reporting principles and cross-shift communication.
  • Proper planning and execution of work.
  • Ability to coach new employees.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
