Position Summary:
The School Counsellor plays a critical role in promoting the emotional, social, and psychological well‑being of students while ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment at the Aga Khan Primary School. This position provides professional counselling services to students, supports teachers and parents in addressing student needs, and strengthens the school’s overall pastoral care framework.
The role requires a compassionate, ethical, and highly organized professional who can provide confidential support to students, respond effectively to student, staff and parents’ concerns, lead awareness initiatives, and foster a culture that prioritizes student safety and wellbeing. The School Counsellor that all counselling procedures are followed, monitored, and continuously improved in alignment with AKS policies and global best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide counselling services to students, supporting their emotional, social, and academic wellbeing.
  • Deliver individual and group counselling sessions, conduct assessments, and develop intervention plans as needed.
  • Work closely with teachers, parents, and school leaders to create a supportive and inclusive school environment.
  • Facilitate identification and management of key counselling risks.
  • Ensure robust counselling arrangements are in place and consistently monitored.
  • Promote counselling awareness among staff, students, and parents through training and guidance.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting in line with AKS counselling standards for children and adults

The requirements

Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field (master’s degree is an added advantage).
  • Professional certification in counselling or child protection is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 2–4 years of counselling experience, preferably in a school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding practices, child protection frameworks, and risk management.
  • Excellent communication, empathy, confidentiality, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple departments and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the wellbeing and safety of children.
