Job Description
Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit a Geologist to join and grow its team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising underground grade control drilling activities, conducting underground geological mapping and sampling, core logging and sampling, and managing geological data.
The role also includes the interpretation of sectional and level plans, also known as flitch plans, solid and ore block modelling, ore movement management, stockpile sampling, and other geological activities that support the safe and profitable operation of Barrick Bulyanhulu Mine.

Responsibilities
Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance
The Geologist will be required to follow all documented health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment, with the goal of ensuring every person goes home safe and healthy every day.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing safety leadership to subordinates, contractors, and MRM business partners.
- Ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, company policies, standards, and guidelines.
- Supervising employees, mine contractors, and business partners to maintain safety standards that exceed industry practice and applicable legislative provisions.
Geological Activities and Data Management
The successful candidate will be responsible for completing 3D interpretation of geological data, including sections, flitches, maps, solid modelling, and block modelling.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring geological outputs are distributed or shared with mine planning, resource, and operational teams.
- Conducting stope analysis and risk assessment.
- Ensuring stope notes and stope closures are completed promptly and shared with relevant teams.
- Ensuring all potential areas of gold mineralization underground are tested through grade control and face sampling in a cost-effective manner.
- Collecting and integrating lithological, structural, and geotechnical data into geological and block models.
- Ensuring appropriate sample and assay quality control measures are implemented, monitored, and reported.
- Ensuring timely dispatch of samples to the laboratory in accordance with QA/QC protocols.
- Monitoring and updating production sites, underground stockpiles, and grades to support daily operations.
Planning, Reporting, and Performance Monitoring
The Geologist will participate actively in business planning and mine management activities.
Key duties include:
- Liaising with technical services teams, metallurgists, surveyors, geotechnical teams, and mine operations teams to achieve optimal production outcomes.
- Preparing and delivering timely and accurate geological, mining, and MRM reports.
- Preparing daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.
- Reporting on ore body dilution, stope performance, and other technical matters.
- Providing key geological inputs to optimize mining operations.
- Supporting grade control drilling, ore drive development, dilution control, and gold recovery.
- Ensuring geological inputs are effectively applied to operational planning.
Team Leadership, Training, and Development
The successful candidate will be expected to support the development and performance of the geology team.
Responsibilities include:
- Mentoring, training, and supervising Geological Technicians, Assistants, and other staff.
- Supporting staff in core logging, geological interpretation, grade control processes, and other geological activities.
- Supporting professional development programs for mine technicians and assistants.
- Promoting continual improvement and delivery of results through effective supervision and guidance.
Operational Support and Accountability
The Geologist will oversee drilling activities and support operational success underground.
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing underground grade control drilling activities.
- Monitoring the performance of business partners, including drilling contractors.
- Supporting budget control for drilling-related activities.
- Safely self-driving manual-transmission light vehicles as required for production activities and business operations.
Safe operation of manual-transmission light vehicles is a mandatory requirement for this role.
Reporting and Documentation
The role requires timely and accurate reporting of geological activities and operational performance.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing and submitting accurate daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and end-of-month geological reports.
- Preparing royalty reports.
- Providing regular updates on stope performance, dilution, and geological risks to mining and management teams.
- Maintaining timely delivery of all geological data, reports, and documentation.
Qualification Requirements
Applicants must have the following qualifications:
- University-level certification in Geology.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Geology.
- Valid Tanzanian driving license.
- Bulyanhulu Mine surface and underground driving permits.
- Proven ability to independently operate manual-gear transmission light vehicles.
Experience and Skills Requirements
Applicants should possess the following experience and skills:
- Good computer knowledge.
- Strong skills in geology software, including:
- VULCAN
- SURPAC
- Datamine
- Micromine
- Leapfrog
- Datashed
- Microsoft Office
- Manual-gear transmission light vehicle driving skills.
- Minimum of three years of experience working in active underground mining operations.
