British High Commission Tanzania Recruitment: 2 Job Vacancies in Dar es Salaam

The British High Commission in Dar es Salaam is recruiting for two positions in security management and financial analysis under the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

1. Post Security Manager EO DAR

Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

The Post Security Manager will support the security operations of the British High Commission in Tanzania, helping protect staff, visitors, residences, information and official facilities.

The role involves working closely with the Regional Security Adviser, Post Security Officer, contracted security providers and other relevant stakeholders. Responsibilities extend to the British High Commission’s facilities in Dar es Salaam and Dodoma, as well as official residences and other locations used for diplomatic activities.

 

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the implementation of physical, technical and operational security measures at British High Commission premises and official residences.
  • Monitoring contracted guarding services, including staff deployment, attendance, performance and compliance with established security procedures.
  • Conducting security inspections, identifying vulnerabilities and coordinating corrective measures.
  • Supporting the operation and maintenance of CCTV systems, alarms, access controls and emergency communication equipment.
  • Coordinating security arrangements for official events, high-level visits and periods of increased security concern.
  • Supporting emergency preparedness through evacuation exercises, incident-response procedures and contingency planning.
  • Preparing security reports, maintaining operational records and assisting with security budget administration.

The position may involve responding to security incidents outside normal working hours.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Applicants must demonstrate relevant experience in operational or protective security, policing, military service, government security, corporate security or a comparable professional environment.

Essential requirements include:

  • Experience supervising or working with contracted guarding and security service providers.
  • Knowledge of physical security systems, access control, CCTV, alarm systems and incident-response procedures.
  • Ability to assess security risks and make sound operational decisions.
  • Strong communication, organisational and report-writing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call arrangements when required.
  • Proficiency in both English and Swahili at C2 level.

Experience in diplomatic security, crisis management, security contract administration or emergency planning will be an advantage.

Relevant professional training in security management, risk management, occupational safety or emergency planning is also desirable.

2. Finance Analyst HEO DAR

The Finance Analyst will support the management of programme and operational budgets at the British High Commission in Tanzania.

Working under the Head of Finance, the successful candidate will provide financial analysis, reporting and practical support to budget holders, programme teams and corporate colleagues.

The position focuses on strengthening financial management, ensuring accurate financial information and supporting the responsible use of public funds.

Key Responsibilities

The Finance Analyst will undertake duties including:

  • Supporting financial planning, budgeting and forecasting across operational and programme activities.
  • Monitoring expenditure and preparing financial reports for budget holders and management.
  • Analysing differences between planned budgets, forecasts and actual expenditure.
  • Supporting month-end and year-end financial processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments and budget adjustments.

  • Providing practical financial guidance to colleagues responsible for managing budgets.
  • Supporting compliance with financial policies, reporting requirements and internal controls.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Applicants should have professional experience in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, financial reporting or the management of organisational resources.

Essential skills and experience include:

  • Understanding of accounting principles, including accruals, prepayments, journals and variance analysis.
  • Experience supporting budget holders or providing financial guidance to non-finance colleagues.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret financial information and explain findings clearly.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to use corporate financial systems.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to improvements in financial controls and processes.

Experience in public-sector financial management, programme budgeting or Official Development Assistance (ODA) activities is valuable.

Candidates working towards, or willing to pursue, a recognised professional accounting qualification such as CCAB, CIMA or an equivalent may also be considered in line with the employer’s requirements.
